Man rapes niece, gets 30-yr jail

BENGALURU: A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to 30 years of imprisonment for raping his 13-year-old niece.
The convict, Rakesh, is a labourer from Tumakuru taluk. Special public prosecutor Asha KS said he was arrested after the mother of the girl lodged a complaint with Tumakuru women police on October 25, 2020.
Rakesh used to visit the girl's house and touch her inappropriately.He took her to a field, sexually assaulted her and recorded her nude videos on his mobile phone. Subsequently, he started blackmailing her for money and gold.
The incident came to light when her mother noticed the gold ornaments kept in her cupboard were missing. When she questioned the daughter, the latter broke down and explained how she was being blackmailed by her uncle. The girl lost interest in studies and even refused to go to a residential school far away from her village.
Of the Rs 1-lakh penalty slapped on Rakesh, Rs 95,000 will be handed over as compensation to the girl.
The minor will also receive Rs 6 lakh compensation from the district legal services authority.
